I’m a Science Fiction author, software developer and architect living in different places in the United States as the need or feeling arises. I’ve always enjoyed reading Science Fiction works. I would often daydream of stories that I felt would be as interesting, if not more, than a work I had just read. I enjoy reading and writing “Soft” science fiction, where the story does not get mired down in extreme technical detail. The writers of “Hard” science fiction spend much of their time researching the feasibility of a race being able to live on a particular planet based on its size, shape, distance from its sun etc. etc. This is a great exercise in theoretical science, but I feel that it can take the enjoyment out of writing for me.
I don’t want to give the impression that I don’t pay any attention to hard science, because I do. I keep track of technical details, such as distances traveled between planets and galaxies, capabilities of equipment etc. I just don’t spend hours trying to validate the feasibility of a particular technology if it doesn’t exist today. I base these capabilities off of the current technology thought feasible, along with the needs of the characters in the story at the time.
Please leave any constructive feedback on my stories, as I have fairly thick skin and realize that I’m not a gift to mankind with the ultimate in imagination and writing skills. I know that my knowledge and abilities always have room for improvement, which is my constant goal.
